I am

Backwater spit runs deep in my veins
My feet sink deep in the red clay
Magnolia wrapped steel strengthens my will
Scuppernong wine lingers on my lips
Lightning bugs stay captured in the twinkle of my eye
Sapphire sky stretches its arms wide
Rain frogs croak their melody just for me
Crickets join in the rousing symphony
I am blueberries eaten straight from the branch
Shucked corn that lets you feel it's silk
Beans that snap so green with a pop
Peaches begging to be plucked
Squirting in your mouth their sweetness
Firecrackers that sizzle in sweltering heat
Showcasing their sparkle with pride
Music that pulls you hips to sway
A voice that melts your inhibitions
Stubborn is my stock
Proud is my chin
Beautiful is my nature
Powerful are my storms
I am the South
